advanced marketing techniques of his staff, has won him many of the strongest venues in
America. Higher caliber promotions, corporate sponsorships and cooperative
advertising have consistently raised yearly attendance levels at Murphy venues.
Marketing is essential to success for any business, especially in the carnival industry. A
carnival must entertain the public to laugh, smile, and feel excitement. The public then
must be persuaded that the discount offers are of such value to captivate them to come to
the Fair's carnival. The advertising to create this excitement and to make the public
aware of the discount offer must be selective.
Expositions has a track record of numerous successful promotions. One such successful
promotion is the mega ride pass where fairgoers are given the opportunity to purchase a
ticket from off site locations prior to the fair. This ticket would allow the purchaser
admission to the fair and unlimited carnival rides every hour of every day of the fair.
For example, the 2002 Tulsa State Fair sold nearly a million dollars worth of the mega
ride pass tickets. The key to the success of a mega ride pass promotion is a combination
of the sales outlets with signage and awareness of the outlet's employees. The employees

Each radio and television station as well as the newspaper should be given an opportunity
to create a promotion that would attract people to the fair and to the carnival midway.
